THE TEAM

JULIE RADDYSH - Publisher

Julie has been working with New Society Publishers since 1997 when she began in the mail room managing the in-house fulflllment and Canadian distribution. She has worked in various areas of the company including inventory, rights, and business operations. She was active in development of the company's unique employee trust structure and looks for ways to enhance New Society Publisher's commitment to sustainable business practices. She lives in Nanaimo BC with her family and enjoys gardening, skiing, camping, and any time she can hang out with her crew.

ALINA CERMINARA - Editorial & Production Coordinator

Alina has settled into her new role here, working to help guide books through the publishing process from the point a manuscript comes in to getting sent to press. On her off time, she loves to plan arts events, climb walls, and eat vegan food, all while starting up her own fledgeling publishing endeavour: FOLKLIFE Magazine.

SUE CUSTANCE - Publishing Director

Sue Custance schedules and manages the book publishing process from beginning to end—from cover design through to press time. When not working, Sue enjoys travel, playing guitar (badly), and spending time with her family.

CAYLIE GRAHAM - Assistant Editor

Caylie is an Assistant Editor in acquisitions and has been with New Society Publishers for 5 five years. When she isn’t busy reading, she spends her time as an uninvited settler, in deep gratitude, for living on the traditional and unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. She is grateful to raise her three sons here and forage, hike, and swim in the ocean in her free time. She has many years of local, agricultural experience as a permaculture farmer but is currently too busy reading to farm. She encourages you to support Indigenous Food Sovereignty and your local, regenerative agriculturalists!

GREG GREEN - Design Director

Greg Green is extremely talented, rides a motorbike, and likes to draw stuff. Greg works best under pressure, preferably completing tasks after the deadline has passed. This is why we have put up this bio for him while we wait for enough time to have passed after the bio submission deadline for him to send one in.

BRITTANY HEMMERLING - Marketing Assistant

As the marketing assistant, Brittany helps with coordinating and implementing the marketing campaigns for New Society Publishers alongside Sara. When she isn’t behind a desk, she can be found roasting coffee for her little roastery business: Lacon Trading Post, penning her own creative musings, or playing in the ocean surrounding what is now known as Denman Island, the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation. She is currently away on maternity leave until 2023.

EJ HURST - Sales Manager

As Sales Manager, EJ works closely with sales teams in North America and overseas to ensure customers around the world can easily purchase New Society books.

She is dedicated to New Society's sustainability goals and is delighted to be part of a team helping to shape public perception about sustainable publishing and raise awareness within the book industry.

In her spare time she enjoys any kind of self-propelled recreation and helps run a karate club on the island.

CURT LETKEMAN - Finance Manager

Curt Letkeman

Curt has worked in the book industry for almost 40 years and recently joined the New Society team. He’s a CPA and besides looking after the numbers he’s involved on the board of his local credit union, on town council and coaches kids baseball. He enjoys summer camping at their family’s seasonal campsite and golfing with their two sons..

PAUL O'SULLIVAN - IT Manager

Paul has worked with computers and associated technology most of his career. He has designed on-board computer systems and written a variety of product and system software. Paul manages New Society's internal and external IT systems and services.

Paul enjoys karate, craft beers, and sailing in and around the beautiful Gulf Islands he calls home.

HEATHER O'SULLIVAN - Digital Publishing Manager

Heather O'Sullivan manages our Ebook Program at New Society.

When she is not slaving away in the digital salt mines she enjoys sailing with husband Paul and first mate Maggie the dog, tending a rather disheveled vegetable garden, and riding herd on a ragtag flock of free ranging chickens. She has a keen interest in local politics, and recently served a four year term as a Gabriola Island Trustee for the Islands Trust.

SARA REEVES - Marketing Manager

Sara oversees New Society's marketing department. Working closely with our authors she develops and executes strategic marketing campaigns. Sara implements our brand development strategy, working closely with the graphics department, and sales team to create promotional materials, website content and advertisements. Sara is also our media and publicity liaison.

In her down time Sara can be found with her hands in the dirt or in the kitchen conjuring up herbal potions for her son to turn his nose up at.

ALLI ROSE - Metadata Coordinator and Webmaster

Alli is likely to be found happily surrounded by highly-coloured spreadsheets, which help her to keep track of the data that helps readers and book sellers find our books, or she's busy keeping the website up to date with our newest blogs and books. She enjoys reading, crocheting, baking, acro yoga, and spending time with her family—though not all at the same time...that would be challenging.

ROB WEST - Acquisitions Editor

With over 300 books under his editorial belt, ranging from major reference works to practical DIY, Rob has been acquiring books across the broad sustainability waterfront since 2002. During the 2000s, he was Senior Commissioning Editor and member of the management team at Earthscan in London.

Since 2015, he has been acquiring books for New Society and with his family, building a low-carbon, low-energy roundwood post and beam house and resilient micro-farm on Gabriola Island, BC, chronicled at www.thehandcraftedlife.com.

INGRID WITVOET - Acquisitions Editor

Ingrid is our very busy acquiring editor. She is likely to be found head down in manuscripts with a glass of red wine next to her. She is unlikely to be found answering e-mails requesting a bio. That is why we have put this bio up instead.

CYNTHIA WOZNY- Administration and Finance

Cynthia Wozny

Cynthia was drawn to Gabriola in 2020 where she left a life and career in Kelowna.

You can usually find her at the beach or in the forest hanging out with her Golden Retriever Jake.

She found a couple of jobs which introduced her to the Community. Such as washing dishes at the Surf, cashier at the Village Grocery Store, and volunteering at Giro every Saturday Morning.

In January of 2021 she was hired at New Society Publishers. You will often hear her say “ I have my dream job!”

JEAN WYENBERG - Publishing Assistant and Customer Service

Jean is the current "office Goddess" and dog treat dispenser. She is in charge of phones, book orders, office inventory, and a number of jobs related to book production such as collating proofing work, pre-press checking, and book endorsements. She is involved in animal rescue (cats in particular) and has amassed quite a collection herself. She dabbles in artistic endeavours and is involved with the very active local community theatre group on Gabriola.
